Performance Tire BoostAccording to data published by Modern Tire Dealer, the total number of replacement passenger tires shipped in 2005 was 205.8 million. Last year, that number was 206.6 million. However, in 2005, the total performance tire market was about 43 million tires; last year, it was just over 70 million. In other words, while the total number of replacement tires hasn’t changed much over the last decade, the percentage of high performance and ultra-high performance tires has increased dramatically. This explains why more and more people are driving “regular” cars with performance tires.

“Performance” or “high performance” tires typically contain a tire speed rating of H, V, Z, or ZR.  Performance tires differ from other tires in that they have a lower profile, harder sidewalls, and have larger block treads.  In addition, they have a nylon girdle over the steel belts, which holds the tire together better under pressure at higher speeds.  This is especially important as most states have increased the speed limits.

In some regards, we are all performance drivers.  We depend on our tires to help us steer and stop with precision.  It’s where the “rubber meets the road”.  Performance tires maximize the handling, cornering, and control of vehicles.  They also work better with the latest anti-lock brake technology.

We understand that people want and expect more from their tires. There are performance tires that can provide better handling, safety at faster speeds, shorter stopping distance, smooth/quiet ride, better gas mileage, run-flat tires and more.

Performance tires might be exactly what you are looking for to improve your driving experience.  Their use is not limited to expensive cars, new cars, or sports cars.  Different performance tires are designed to meet different needs.  Visit Dunn Tire online or stop into any of our locations and ask about performance tires for your vehicle. We’ll help you determine what’s best for you!
