VA State Motor Vehicle Inspections

Dunn Tire's Chesterfield, VA location is an official Virginia State Inspection Station, certified to perform annual vehicle safety inspections. Inspections in Virginia are by appointment only, so please call ahead or schedule online to reserve your spot.

What Does a Virginia State Inspection Include

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, all registered vehicles must pass an annual state safety inspection to ensure that they are safe for the road. Dunn Tire is authorized to conduct these inspections and issue your updated inspection sticker once your vehicle meets all required safety standards.

Please note that certain exemptions include registered antique vehicles and trailers under 3,000 lbs.

Our trained technicians carefully inspect your vehicle according to state-mandated guidelines. The Virginia State Inspection includes, but is not limited to, checking the following systems and components:

  • Body and Chassis Condition
  • Brakes (service, parking, and warning lights)
  • Exhaust System and Catalytic Converter
  • Fuel System and Gas Cap
  • Headlights, Turn Signals, and Tail Lights
  • Horn and Odometer
  • License Plate Lights and Mounting
  • Mirrors and Windows
  • Seat Belts and Airbag Readiness Light
  • Steering, Suspension, and Wheel Alignment
  • Tires, Wheels, and Rims
  • Windshield, Wipers, and Defrosters

If your vehicle passes inspection, you’ll receive a new inspection sticker valid for one year. If it fails, our staff will explain what needs to be repaired, provide an estimate, and assist with re-inspection once the issues are resolved.
